Dogs against stress – Dogs are a tremendous help in stress relief. It is scientifically proved that dog owners with high blood pressure can keep their blood pressure lower during times of mental stress. Cortisol level lowers after stroking the dog. You can be very angry, upset, then walk a dog and after 10 minutes you will feel much better, and reason to be so angry will have faded away.
Dogs are truly man’s best friends but not only because they love us unconditionally but in a more subtle sphere of fighting bad habits, mental and physical inertia. Walking and taking care of a dog can treat and prevent depression. They break bad physical and mental habits such as laziness and apathy and water compassion instead of carelessness. Man today is much more inclined to imagination than ever before – a so called daydreaming syndrome. Deferment or procrastination is a widely spread mental weakness. Dog is a personification of our own responsibility (or irresponsibility).
This is why we shouldn’t be surprised when more and more schools are opening their classrooms for the dogs that are being used to improve children’s reading abilities and even more important their awareness to others, their self-discipline and self-esteem. Children with behavioral problems (too shy, hyperactive etc) benefit much being around the dogs because dogs are unbiased. In a human-dog relationship, you only need to be yourself; you do not need to pretend being what society expects you to be. This brings so much relief and joy into one’s day-to-day life.
Wayward dogs belong to impulsive people. Disobedient dogs always tell of a lack of communication between the human caregiver and its dog. But whatever weakness you may have you can overcome it – if you are aware of it and willing to over win the battle. There are people that don’t even know they would benefit from taking care of a dog. This is really sad, and if you are a dog owner and know some people around you, who are indifferent to dogs or even scared, show compassion and make a good deed – introduce them to your dog. One never knows whose life might be transformed after such a simple thing.
