Our dogs – molossoid breeds

TOSA INU | FILA BRASILEIRO

People unfamiliar with these molossoid breeds often ask which one is more beautiful. Is it the Brazilian Fila – with it’s elegant clumsiness, body of a wild cat and unsurpassed loyalty or the Japanese Tosa – the attentive Goliaths, dogs of tremendous strength and agility combined with a distinctive urge to please their master? For us it is impossible to answer this question. But we know that certain people belong to certain dogs and vice versa. Dogs represent our sense of responsibility and our compassion. Acquiring a dog can help with nurturing these fine human abilities. Conscientious dog owners are better parents and partners in life.

The story about us at Harakhan kennel and the Molossers (molosser dogs, molossoid breeds, mastiff breeds) has begun in 1990’s. We didn’t have an official registered kennel, but our interest was there – to get to know in person these large dog breeds that have been loyal human companions even back in the ancient times. We conveyed this goal of learning about Molosses by acquiring different mastiff and bulldog type dogs. Back in those days there weren’t as many Molosser breeders as nowadays, without internet it was an almost exotic ordeal! Nevertheles one decade later, our experience counted a total of fifty dogs of the following dog breeds: Tosa inu, Fila Brasileiro, Perro de Presa Canario, Perro De Presa Mallorquin, Olde English Bulldogge, English and American Bulldogs, English Mastiff, Bullmastiff and Neapolitan Mastiff, Shar-pei, Bandog, Rhodesian Ridgeback, Cane Corso.

In 2003 Harakhan kennel was officially registered and by then we knew which two breeds had singled out as our dearest, dogs of the most special character: Fila Brasileiro and Tosa Inu.
